Videos published on social media are highlighting how many businesses across America are boarding up their premises in the lead up to the US election. And it's a sign that is unnerving many not only in the US but across the world.

TikTok user @homeworthy soundtracked her video showing five star hotels and upmarket shops across New York boarding up, with a piece of music from the horror movie The Purge.
It had an unsettling effect.
CNN news anchor Wolf Blitzer highlighted a similar scene in Washington DC.
Actor John Cusack also weighed in with his thoughts about the boarded up businesses.
While many are expressing anxiety about the boarded up businesses, some retailers are asserting that they are just taking precaution.
