It's been a while between sequels, but Bill and Ted are back and being introduced to a new generation of film-goers, in no small part due to the introductions of their daughters, Thea and Billie, played by Brigette Lundy-Paine and Australian actress Samara Weaving.

Released internationally on streaming platforms last month, Bill & Ted Face the Music is the third film in the series, which stars Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves as two well-intentioned time-travelling metal-head slackers. The first, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, was released in 1989 and the second, Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey was released in 1991.

And while Reeves and Winter have reprised their titular roles for the third installment, the new film focuses on the characters' adult daughters, who head back in time to form the ultimate band in order to play their dads' song.
Social media users, thirsty for nostalgia, were taken aback by just how wholesome and good the film was, with one viewer tweeting: "In a year of shocking occurrences, perhaps none have surprised me more than 'the new Bill and Ted movie made me cry'."

Screenwriter and host of the Keep It! podcast, Ira Madison III, also enjoyed it, writing: "I needed something light tonight so I watched Bill and Ted for the first time (I’d only seen the school presentation scene on cable as a kid)... and... what a joyful film?!"

Another viewer wrote: "Lmao it’s been like four seconds and I would die for Bill, Ted, and their daughters."

The trilogy's writer, Ed Solomon, said in an interview that he would "absolutely" consider letting the characters of Billie and Thea carry the franchise forward.

"If there was interest and people wanted to carry this forward, the Bill and Ted spirit, I would absolutely let those characters carry it forward," he said.
