According to a leaked casting call for the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel, Marvel Studios could soon be looking to diversify their stable of talent, seeking "an 18-22 year old of any ethnicity to play a gender non-conforming student".
While it's not yet known how significant a role the character will play in film, it's a promising development for LGBTIQ+ Marvel fans.
It is believed that the second Homecoming film will start shooting soon, with production moving to London to accommodate British actor Tom Holland, who plays Spider-Man.
"We start filming early July," Kevin Feige, president Marvel Studios, said in an interview earlier this year.
He continued: "We film in London. We shot the first film in Atlanta. And we shoot a lot of films in London but there’s another reason we’re shooting in London which is, yes, Spidey, of course."
"[He] will spend some time in New York, but he’ll spend some time in other parts of the globe."
The sequel is also rumoured to be starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Spider-Man's foe Mysterio.
