The original Wiggles are back for a one-time reunion show for adults only (sorry preschoolers, you'll have to sit this one out) to raise funds for bushfire relief and I for one can't wait.
I'm not the only one excited. Across the internet fans are hoping to get their hands on the sought after tickets.
I went to the last Wiggles reunion show in Sydney in late 2016 and without exaggeration it was the best day of my life. At the time, I had just finished Year 12 and it just so happened that my HSC marks had been released earlier that morning. One chapter of my life was officially closed and the next was about to start. It was the perfect sweet spot to stand in a local club surrounded by fully grown adults who ranged from slightly tipsy to completely plastered, while we all screamed “Toot toot chugga chugga big red car!” like we were three years-old again.
But the best part of the show was watching all of our adult worries, anxieties and frustrations fall away. The mosh pit prior to the concert was not the usual passive-aggressive shuffle of other concerts. I actually talked to people. Everyone had a story about growing up with The Wiggles. We were fully united in our nostalgia and child-like awe of the men in the coloured skivvies. And I can only imagine that this bushfire relief concert will feel just like that, but magnified as also stand united in our grief and our hope as we begin to recover from the bushfire crisis.
I spent last night after I read the announcement frantically messaging friends and family to figure out who was going to the concert and who would buy the tickets. As I write this, ticket release is in 10 minutes and I can feel the anticipation building. And I can pretty much guarantee that if I miss out on tickets I will be ten thousand times more disappointed than I was when I missed out on tickets to see Lizzo. The Wiggles cannot be matched and I refuse to even think about the possibility that I will not be there to dance with them like it’s still 1999 and the country is not on fire.
The show, which will raise funds for the Australian Red Cross and WIRES will be held at Castle Hill RSL on January 18th. Tickets will go on sale at 10am today.
