A forthcoming three-part television miniseries will depict the infamous 1970s scandal surrounding British politician Jeremy Thorpe.
Set to broadcast on BBC later this year, the series, which stars Hugh Grant and Ben Whishaw in the lead roles, delves into the life of the controversial MP (Grant) as he was tried and ultimately acquitted of conspiring to murder his former lover, Norman Scott (Wishaw).
BAFTA winning actress Monica Dolan will play Thorpe's wife, Marion.
Screenwriter and producer Russell T. Davies, who created Queer As Folk and was responsible for reviving Doctor Who in 2005, wrote the series based on a book of the same name by John Preston.
“I was always drawn to this story," he said. "I was a teenager when it all kicked off and it was the first time I had ever heard the word homosexual on the news – or anywhere probably."
