A married couple in New Zealand have taken to social media to help raise funds for IVF.

Starting a Facebook page called Almost Dads, Ryan Curran, 27, and Jerome Pacquing, 25, are hoping to raise $25,000 through crowd-funding platform Givealittle, covering the estimated cost of one round of IVF and embryo transfer.

“We love our life and we love our house,” the pair wrote in a post.

“The only thing is, our house is awfully quiet and we would love to fill it with a couple of children of our own!"

They explained: “We have so much love to give and we created this page for 2 reasons, 1. We would love it if you donating [sic] some funds to afford to do IVF as it’s extremely expensive and 2. We want you to journey with us as we go through the IVF process and the pregnancy of this already loved child."

In the description on their crowd-funding page, the pair add: "We have friends who have given us a beautiful gift and are ready to donate an egg and another who would be a surrogate.

"The only thing we are missing now is the $$."

As an interracial couple (Ryan is Pākehā, Jerome is Filipino) the pair told Stuff.co.nz that they'd found Pākehā and Filipino egg donors, meaning their children would also be mixed-race.

Also speaking to Stuff.co.nz, medical director for fertility clinic Repromed, Dr Guy Gudex, explained that New Zealand's publicly-funded IVF didn't include same-sex couples - unless they were able to prove an underlying fertility issue.
