Loiza Lamers and Benjamin Melzer have become the first transgender models to pose nude for PETA’s anti-fur campaign.
The pair has stripped naked to speak out against the fur industry, the latest celebrities to appear in the long-running ‘I’d rather go naked than wear fur’ advertisements produced by the animal rights organisation.
“Wearing the pelt of a tormented animal who was electrocuted, beaten, drowned, or skinned alive is creepy and cruel,” Lamers said in a statement.
“There are so many fur-free clothing options available now that it’s easy to have a killer look without killing animals.”
Melzer added, “Fur has no place in anyone’s wardrobe. We encourage all compassionate people to leave it where it belongs: on animals.”
The two models have become pioneers in the modelling industry—promoting increased transgender visibility.
Lamers was the first world’s first transgender winner of the Top Model franchise—coming first in the eighth cycle of the Dutch version of the TV show in 2015.
Melzer became the first transgender man to grace the cover of any European men’s fitness magazine—appearing in Men’s Health Germany in 2016.
Lamers and Melzer have previously worked together on advertisements for Diesel and join celebrities such as Pamela Anderson, Taraji P Henson and Christy Turlington in appearing naked in PETA’s anti-fur campaign.
