Twitter users have been celebrating their identity by uploading selfies and using the hashtag #BlackGaySlay over the weekend.

The trend took hold after user @Mikey_Talks tweeted photos of himself, along with the caption, “If you came to slay tonight, say I slay!”

He also noted that although the hashtag is #BlackGaySlay, it is intended to encompass anyone who identifies as LGBTQIA+.

He created the hashtag in response to #BoysKissBoysSelfies, which promoted the gay community but was dominated by mostly white Twitter users.

#BlackGaySlay coincides with Black History Month in the United States.
