UN Human Rights expert Vitit Muntarbhorn will visit Argentina this week to investigate different forms of discrimination and violence against LGBT+ people in the country.
“I am particularly interested in legislative reforms and policies that have been implemented in Argentina to protect people targeted because of their sexual orientation or gender identity, and to create an inclusive environment,” Muntarbhorn said in a statement.
During Mr Muntarbhorn’s visit, he will meet with local and federal government officials as well as LGBT organisations in Buenos Aires, Santa Fe and Mendoza.
“The visit will allow me to identify not only good practices but also issues for which I will provide concrete recommendations to fight violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity,” Mr. Muntarbhorn said.
Mr Muntarbhorn was appointed in 2016 as the first ever UN Independent Expert on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity to monitor global violence and discrimination against the LGBT+ community.
