OPINION

A lot has been written about why Greta Thunberg threatens powerful old white men (all the misogyny).

The litany of powerful men who seem to have time and bandwidth to launch attacks on Swedish teen environmental activist is remarkable. From Brazil's president labelling her a "brat" after she spoke out against violence against indigenous people to recent attacks by President Donald Trump.

The latest volley from Donald Trump has fans rallying to her defence.

“Greta must work on her Anger Management problem, then go to a good old fashioned movie with a friend!  “Chill Greta, Chill!” ” Trump tweeted shrilly in decidedly 'unchill' fashion last week.

The insult was remarkable considering the history of incoherent rants the President regularly releases on Twitter.

It is this clear dynamic of taking on the political establishment, that continues to win Greta fans and strengthen her message.

Greta herself has taken the remarks as a badge of honour, changing her social media profile to incorporate and mock the insults lobbed against her.

Despite the attacks, they slide off her like she's Teflon. The opposition attacks against her only seem to increase her popularity and credibility.

"Don’t let anyone dim your light. Like the girls I’ve met in Vietnam and all over the world, you have so much to offer us all. Ignore the doubters and know that millions of people are cheering you on," Michelle Obama tweeted.
