The Cairnes Brothers' comedy/horror 100 Bloody Acres has won the Best Motion Picture Award in the Midnight X-Treme category of Spain's prestigious Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival, devoted to horror/fantasy genre films.
The debut feature film from Colin and Cameron Cairnes stars Damon Herriman and Angus Sampson as brother-owner founders of a fertiliser business, who, through a series of misadventures, hit upon on a unique way to boost their blood-and-bone output.
The Sitges Award caps off the solid recognition the film has enjoyed sin e premiering at the 2012 Melbourne International Film Festival. However, the strong critical response failed to translate into box office, as the film took just $18,355 in its limited local cinema run in Australia.
