28 Days Later is a top horror-thriller.

Offers a winning combination with its realistic scenes of terror and convincing performances.

Jim, Cillian Murphy, wakes from a coma in his hospital bed to silence and the absence of everyone. As he wanders the streets of London in his hospital gear it's obvious that some apocalyptic happening has occurred. Jim's first encounter with other humans is an unfortunate one - something has happened to normality - and then he's rescued by two normals, Selena, Naomie Harris, and Mark, Noah Burns, who explain that a rage virus, something in the blood, has affected just about everyone. The living dead still roam but there are pockets of resistance and after Mark is felled, they head towards Manchester teaming up with the father, Brendan Gleeson, of a teenage girl, Megan Burns. Shot on video and made to look like it, which adds another creepy dimension to the effect, 28 Days Later is a top horror-thriller. Danny Boyle of Trainspotting fame and screenwriter Alex Garland, who also wrote The Beach for Boyle, have come up with something really terriffic here. The visuals are stunning, real, the sense of threat exceedingly well realised. The performances are very convincing.
