5 Reasons Why Australia Can Win Eurovision 2016

Australia is obsessed with Eurovision but how likely is it that a country on the opposite side of the planet could take out the world’s biggest singing contest?

One obstacle in our way to claiming the glittery top prize it that, like most other nations, Australia will need to slog it out in the Semi-Final rounds in order to secure a berth in the ultimate sing off that is the Grand Final.  And, who better to take up this ominous task than talent show Gladiator, proven powerhouse performer and pop darling Dami Im.

There’s much buzz around Australia’s return to the contest and even more hubbub over Im’s selection with insiders and fans suggesting that our Diva is poised to snatch the glittery top prize.

And here’s 5 reasons why Europe is taking notice…

1. The Song

“Sound of Silence” has been described as a huge “power ballad”, likened to Jordin Sparks’ mega-successful global hit “Battlefield” and heavily fancied by the Eurovision odd setters. Written and produced by DNA (Anthony Egizii and David Musumeci), who’s recent credits include Delta Goodrem’s #1 Australian chart single “Wings”, “Sound of Silence” is a powerful and moody ballad that brilliantly showcases Im’s amazing voice.  The song provides Im the opportunity to do as she did in her winning run on Australia’s X Factor and blow everyone away with an assured, powerhouse performance on the Stockholm stage.

2. The Artist

The talented and glamourous Korean born Dami Im has one of the best backstories of any of this year’s Eurovision contestants and one which has piqued the interest of the Eurovision press pack.  Her professional journey, effervescent personality, obvious talent and ability to consistently deliver the goods when under pressure will win hearts…and more importantly votes.

3. The Dami Army

They’re everywhere!   The #DamiArmy is vast and steadily building ranks right across Europe with strong ex-pat communities rallying behind our Aussie Diva. Strong support for an Aussie victory is gathering momentum across Scandinavia, Central Europe and from our trusted allies in the United Kingdom and Ireland.  The #DamiArmy should not be underestimated!

4. The Frock

Our Diva is on record as saying she’s going to be “fashion forward” with her look for the staging of “Sound of Silence” and, if her outfit from the SBS campaign is anything to go by, we’re expecting a showstopper:
There’s much mystery surrounding any potential on-stage theatrics and team Dami cannot confirm or deny a costume reveal.  Ahhh, the anticipation!

5. The Staging

Critical to any modern-day Eurovision act’s success is creative staging.  Last year’s winning entry from Sweden delivered a new standard in staging-wizardry.  Russia’s Sergey Lazarov will be using every visual trick in the book to take the contest back to Moscow and Iceland’s jaw-dropping visuals have been orchestrated by Australia’s own Jonathan Duffy.  With HUGE secrecy around the intricacies of the Aussie staging we can expect something big, bold and worthy of those delicious two words…Douze Points!
