'I Have Never Forgotten You" is the compelling documentary detailing the life and legacy of Simon Wiesenthal, the famed Jewish Nazi Hunter and humanitarian.
The film covers his interment and treatment in numerous SS camps during WWII and his subsequent quest to hunt down and bring to trial all those responsible for the atrocities committed to over 6 million Jews.
Director Richard Trank co-wrote the piece with the founder of the Wiesenthal Centre Rabbi Marvin Hier. Narrated by Nicole Kidman and filmed on locations throughout Europe, Israel and America, the documentary uses archival footage, interviews and photographs to piece together the story.
I found Weisenthal to be entertaining, brave and so inspiring. After all he had survived, he never presented himself as a victim nor acted as one"¦ yet you always got the sense that pain, loss and sadness were never very far away"¦truly remarkable. Some of the witness accounts made me cry and rage at how this could have happened.
Unfortunately the film was extremely compromised by the narration. Why did they feel the need to use Nicole Kidman? Her voice pulls you out of the film, as it imposes rather than informs"¦ pity.
Weisenthal was the ultimate avenging angel"¦ the people he brought down were the epitome of evil yet he was a softly spoken, gentle and humorous man with a will of iron. Like all well written thrillers he had justice on his side "¦ this man was a hero!
Forgiving the narration, this is a compelling watch"¦ I’m giving it 4 stars.
