Young UK director Shane Meadows (Twenty FourSeven, This is England) pleases the critics, if not the mainstream audience. His films are deceptively simple, often a little downbeat and with touches of interpersonal creepiness. This story of the friendship between two teenage boys, interrupted by their meeting with a seemingly nice guy (Meadows regular Paddy Considine) is sustained by its strongly naturalistic performances. Small canvas, small lives, big hearts.
