A group of small-time criminals comprising the sexy lovers Coco (Carla Gugino) and Junior (Simon Baker), the condescendingly superior strategist Lizard (Gil Bellows) and the deceptively naive killer Ruben (Til Schweiger) execute their supposedly flawless plan of kidnapping computer billionaire Ben Dyson (Greg Wise), who`s insured for $4 million. Unfortunately a woman appears on the scene and Coco shoots her dead. Bantering cops Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman join forces to track them down because the woman was actually the wife of a senator... amidst the mayhem and bloodshed the humour emerges from this strange assortment of characters.
The casting of Thompson and Rickman, while unlikely, actually works because they`re both so good at delivering their sexual repartee. But the real driving force of the film is Coco played with winsome anarchy by a dynamic Carla Gugino... she`s just terrific... Australian actor Simon Baker puts in sterling service as Junior, as does the rest of the cast, including German superstar Til Schweiger. You don`t need to see Coco reading a Jim Thompson novel to know that this film will delve into the seamier side of American life... with smart twists and turns that are extremely entertaining...
