Acolytes slays them at Toronto Film Fest

Australian director Jon Hewitt's thriller Acolytes had its NorthAmerican premiere overnight at the Toronto Film Festival, and isearning favourable reviews for its tale of abused teens who enterdangerous territory when they attempt to blackmail a serial killer intomaking their tormentor his next victim.

Local distributor Palace Films is yet to set a release date for Acolytes but the film featured in a list of upcoming local cinema releases at the recent Australian International Movie Convention.  

Acolytes screened in the Midnight Madness section of the TIFF program.

Mark Hartley's Not Quite Hollywood had its North American premiere over the weekend and has two other screenings at Toronto this week. The film is still playing in cinemas so catch it if you haven't already, for a fun look at the history of Ozploitation cinema. It has had a disappointing start at the box office but hopefully it will improve as word of mouth spreads.

Both Acolytes and Not Quite Hollywood are eligible for IF Awards.
