Danish actor brothers Mads and Lars Mikkelsen are up against each other in the competition for Denmark’s top acting honour.

Danish actor brothers Mads and Lars Mikkelsen are up against each other in the competition for Denmark's Bodil Award, which the Danish Critics' Association will present on March 16 at Copenhagen's Bremen Theatre. Mads Mikkelsen is nominated for the lead in Danish director Nikolaj Arcel's A Royal Affair, while Lars Mikkelsen is considered for his performance in Katrine Wiedemann's A Caretaker's Tale.

[SBS Movies Review: A Royal Affair]

A Royal Affair leads the race leads the race for the trophy with six nominations in five categories (two for Best Actor), in front of Kaspar Munk's You and Me Forever, Tobias Lindholm's A Hijacking and Henrik Ruben Genz's Excuse Me, with four, Mads Mathiessen's Teddy Bear with two, while Anne-Grethe Bjarup Riis' This Life, Bille August's Marie Krøyer, Lotte Svendsen's Max Pinlig på Roskilde and A Caretaker's Tale all got one.

Arcel's fourth feature, which has sold 530,000 tickets domestically, won two Silver Bears at last year's Biennale for Best Original Screenplay (Arcel, Rasmus Heisterberg) and Best Actor (Mikkel Bo Følsgaard). Also ominated for a Golden Globe, the Zentropa Entertainments production has joined the short-list for an Oscar nomination as Best Foreign-Language Feature.
