Local crime drama Animal Kingdom has taken $1,835,922 in its first two weeks, with a 27% increase in its screen averages in its second week.
Director David Michôd said of the success of his debut feature “I've found this last few weeks quite overwhelming, to be honest. I couldn't have hoped for the Animal Kingdom reception to roll out any better than it has and it's been especially gratifying - after Sundance and all the international interest - to find the movie working so well at home. It makes me really happy."

The film has been sold to international markets including US and Latin American markets (Sony Pictures Classic), United Kingdom (Optimum Releasing), France (ARP Selection) Italy (Mikado Films), Scandinavia (Scanbox Entertainment), Benelux (Paradiso), Spain (Avalon), Germany (Atlas) and Commonwealth of Independent States, former Russia (Film Depot).
