The real Best Picture Winner? Source: Twitter

Academy Award winner Warren Beatty and Academy Award winner Faye Dunaway made an epic mistake by giving the Academy Award for Best Picture to 'La La Land' over actual winner 'Moonlight'.

It seems that the pair didn't take it upon themselves to declare an alternate winner - Beatty was handed the wrong envelope. Nonetheless, social media has reacted as expected as people submitted who they believed the true winner was.
Beatty meanwhile remains baffled what happened.
Or maybe it was his intention all along.
Regardless, Beatty might have found himself a new career in politics should he decide on a late-in-life career change.
As for the envelope handler, they haven't been seen since the stuff-up.
As for who was truly at fault, PricewaterhouseCoopers is employed to ensure that no mistakes are made, with briefcase holders Brian Cullinan and Martha Ruiz supervising the counting procedures and memorizing the winners - thereby preventing the need to list them on any physical documentation should they fall into the wrong hands.

Should a presenter declare a false winner it is their role to alert the television show's producers - something that no doubt would have happened during today's ceremony.

“We would make sure that the correct person was known very quickly,” Cullinan said to the Huffington Post.

“Whether that entails stopping the show, us walking onstage, us signaling to the stage manager — that’s really a game-time decision, if something like that were to happen. Again, it’s so unlikely.”
