Bedrooms and Hallways

Director Rose Troche couldn't have followed up her lesbian black and white debut Go Fish with a more unpredictable brew. Kevin McKidd (Trainspotting, Rome, Kingdom of Heaven) plays a gay man searching for love in the strangest places. He finds retreat in a new-age men's group where he meets the sexually confused Irishman played by hunky James Purefoy (Rome, Vanity Fair). McKidd falls head over heels, but Purefoy has a past, and so does every other endearing character in this film about starting again. 'Our own' Hugo Weaving is absolutely hilarious as a real estate agent who like to sleep with his toy-boy Tom Hollander (Pirates of the Caribbean) in other people's houses. Jennifer Ehle (Possession) is cute as the woman between Purefoy and McKidd. Simon Callow and Julie Graham are in great support, stealing every scene, and the film is a screwball comedy in the mould of the Hollywood classics of the '40s, given a modern spin.
