Weiner offers a ringside seat to political scandal, by depicting the excruciating implosion of disgraced U.S. Congressman Anthony Weiner's attempt at a political comeback.
Fiona and Nick talk about the fascinating Weiner on The Playlist:
Weiner was infamously exposed in more ways than one, when a Twitter sexting scandal forced him out of his congressional seat in 2011. Two years later, he announced plans to run as a candidate for New York City Mayor, and he embarked on a charm offensive, with his wife, Democratic political aide Huma Abedin, frequently at his side. Filmmakers Josh Kriegman (Weiner’s former chief of staff) and Elyse Steinberg gained exclusive access to the campaign's inner circle, and set about to document the disgraced politician's potentially miraculous comeback. When a second wave of scandal hit, Kriegman and Steinberg were there to document the fallout, in all of its agonising detail.
Weiner was shortlisted for a 2017 Academy Award for Best Documentary and it's now streaming at SBS On Demand for a limited time. Do not miss it.
