Catherine Deane, played by Jennifer Lopez, is a therapist who specialises in getting inside the heads of coma victims. She`s called in by the police when they capture a particularly sadistic serial killer Carl Stargher, Vincent D`Onofrio; his latest victim is imprisoned in an unknown location facing imminent death - can Catherine get inside the madman`s mind and save the terrified prisoner?.. This is an unusually silly film and, for a thriller, an unusually unthrilling and unsuspenseful one. Jennifer Lopez hardly convinces as the therapist, the serial killer plot is handled in a very cursory fashion, and Vince Vaughn, as the chief cop, walks through his part. The director, Tarsem Singh, is known for his tv commercials and music videos, and he certainly has an eye for strikingly unusual, almost psychedelic imagery - but this element of the film only weighs it down further. I was a bit bored by The Cell.
