Wayne (Robert Redford) and Eileen (Helen Mirren) live an idyllic life, having raised two children and built a successful business. Their world is shattered when disgruntled ex employee Arnold Mack (Willem Dafoe) kidnaps Wayne. What happens next is not really very much. We seem to be on an endless nature hike incorporating flash backs of deep dysfunction in both their relationships. The Clearing would make a damn fine stage play. Unfortunately despite fine performances you can\'t see the forest for the trees.
