Cliches galore.

A mawkish and utterly unconvincing concoction of cliches and manipulative, corny trash.

In an industrial city, Dawn (Brenda Blethyn) and Jackie (Julie Walters) work together on an electronic assembly line. Jackie`s marriage has gone stale, and she`s having a not very fulfilling affair with the manager of a bingo parlour. Dawn is a battler, married to Jackie`s brother, raising two children - but she seems happy - until she discovers she`s seriously ill. But matters take a turn for the better with the intervention of good fortune.

I have to admit a prejudice here. I find both Brenda Blethyn and Julie Walters very annoying actors, actors given to ripe over-acting with an excess of irritating mannerisms. They can both shine when firmly directed, but when the direction is weak, as it is here, they can be embarrassing. Girl`s Night was, for me, TRULY embarrassing, a mawkish and utterly unconvincing concoction of clich?s and manipulative, corny trash.
