Underrated no more
Even now in September, lists on the best films this year are starting to creep out. The better ones tend to highlight movies that probably won’t feature on the major stages down the track, like Indie Outlook’s 10 Underrated Performances of 2014, which includes SBS favourites Ida and Child’s Pose.

Substance.com, a website dedicated to addressing addiction in all its forms, turns its attention to the topic of drugs in the movies, particularly how well they depict the reality of taking them. Across of a range of substances (heroin, cocaine, PCP, etc.), Tony O’Neill rates 10 films, including The Wolf of Wall Street.

The Toronto International Film Festival has just begun and as always, Oscar buzz, for better or worse, will play a huge role in how many of the movies will fare down the track.
