Nobody Loves You More Than Me: Finding Margarete is a new interactive text-based documentary produced by SBS Australia which reveals the details of a life that have remained unknown for more than 75 years. Anne Zahalka, one of Australia’s most respected photo-media artists, has stepped out from behind the camera to explore the story of her own grandmother, Margarete Back, who disappeared during World War II.

This beautiful and poignant story is written by Anne’s friend, and one of Australia’s most original and provocative writers, Charlotte Wood. Told through a series of previously unseen letters and photographs, readers will be invited to join Zahalka as she sets off on an emotional journey of discovery to March 1938, when 55-year-old Back and her teenage daughters were living in a comfortable apartment in Vienna as Hitler’s army marched into the city. Drawing on Back's own passion for embroidery, the online documentary weaves together historical records with personal accounts using the embroidery work of MaricorMaricar.

As next year marks the 80th anniversary of the start of WWII, this new interactive text-based documentary offers a unique perspective on those who lived and those who lost loved ones during Hitler’s reign. Nobody Loves You More Than Me: Finding Margarete is part of SBS’s Untold Australia documentary series, which unearths some of the most fascinating and unreported stories from Australia’s diverse and sometimes eclectic communities.
