Shoe designer Drew Baylor (Orlando Bloom) can't put a foot right. After spending 8 years developing a runner called the 'Spasmotica', he's told by his boss Phil (Alec Baldwin) that it's the greatest failure of its kind. Fired from his job and dumped by girlfriend Ellen (Jessica Biel), Drew just wants to kill himself. But his plan is upset when his father dies during a visit to his hometown, and Drew is appointed by his mother Hollie (Susan Sarandon) to travel to Elizabethtown to arrange the funeral. On the way he meets flight attendant Claire (Kirsten Dunst) whose enthusiasm for life makes him re-evaluate.
I couldn't help but connect with Elizabethtown. It's a heartfelt movie with humour and insight into what really should be important to us. The magic of the story is in the gentle, intimate moments in the developing relationship between Claire and Drew. All the characters are easy to identify with, especially Kirsten Dunst's Claire who's as loveable as she can be irritating. But it's not just the characters that drive this film. Cameron Crowe is a master of using rock and pop tunes to deliver an unforgettable emotional impact.
