Noah Kim stands quietly to the side of the performance stage at the Australian Embassy event at the Euro Club in Stockholm. You can tell he’s aware that his wife, Dami Im’s, life is about change dramatically as she prepares to take to the stage to perform her song “The Sound of Silence”. With an SBS #DamiArmy support paddle in hand his face beams as Im arrives on stage to rousing cheers from the parochial crowd. The smile never leaves his face.
“It’s amazing just to have him around” Im gushes. “He’s been looking after my voice” she admits.
And the former South Korean military serviceman is not only helping to keep her voice safe. He’s become an indispensable resource in the backstage Delegation lounge. And most importantly he’s become one of the many dress attendants assisting the perilous decent of the steps from the lounge to the stage.
After an incident at the Helsinki held event in 2007, where an artist was trapped in a malfunctioning lift delaying the telecast, the use of lifts is now banned and artists can only make their way to the arena stage via steps. Dami’s stunning and elaborate dress can take up to three attendants to assist her make the way from wardrobe to stage and Noah’s always there to help.
Married in Seoul in September of 2012 Dami and Noah are also joined in Stockholm by Im’s supportive and very proud parents Lee Hae-yun and Im Dong-eal. This tight, loving family has embraced this year’s Eurovision theme of “Come Together” standing strong behind their charge and putting in whatever is needed to help Dami succeed.
