As the world today mourns the shock news death of iconic ‘Purple Rain’ singer Prince at the age of 57, Eurovision stars have taken to social media to pay tribute to the music legend.

Perhaps one of the most moving Eurovision/Prince memories though comes from our own Australian representative Dami Im, who famously performed this stunning rendition of Prince’s iconic ‘Purple Rain’ on Seven’s X Factor, which helped propel her to stardom:
Dami relived the iconic moment in the wake of this morning's sad news during an appearance on Seven's The Morning Show:
She’s not the only Eurovision star to have performed an amazing cover of the track though, with Spanish Eurovision star Ruth Lorenzo having taken to the stage with it during Britain’s version of the X Factor, back in 2008. It was the song that helped launch her own career too, and the star took to Twitter today to show her gratitude and relive the moment:
Lorenzo earned Spain 10th place in the finals of Eurovision 2014 with her song “Dancing in the Rain”.

Our very own Julia Zemiro, Eurovision presenter, Rockwiz host and Prince devotee had no words on hearing the news:
A flood of tweets came in from this year’s contestants including the French Amir:
Moldova’s Lidia Isac:
The Ukraine’s Jamala
Spain’s Barei
Bulgaria’s Poli Genova
Quirky Irish stars and two-time Eurovision entrants Jedward took to Instagram with this very long rant on the subject:
2012’s winner Loreen shared some heartfelt words too:
The Eurovision Song Contest will be broadcast on SBS’s Eurovision Weekend - Friday 13, Saturday 14 and Grand Final Sunday 15 May, 7.30pm on SBS, with LIVE early morning broadcasts from 5am on Wednesday 11, Friday 13 and Sunday 15 May.
