Based on a true story writer director Scott Derrickson brings us the Exorcism of Emily Rose.Laura Linney stars as Erin Bruner the defense lawyer for Father Richard Moore Tom Wilkinson who has been accused of negligence when a young girl Emily Rose Jennifer Carpenter died during an exorcism he was performing. There are a handful of scary moments in which Jennifer Carpenter’s performance of the possessed Emily works but even talented actors like Linnly and Wilkinson can not liberate this supernatural tale out of the boring courtroom drama it descends into. Feeling more like an extended episode of Law and Order Trial by Jury, those expecting a reworking of the Exorcist will be sorely disappointed.
