This week SBS launches the latest season of Filthy Rich and Homeless, a series in which five well-known and affluent Australians are sent to sleep on the streets of Sydney for a week. The documentary series is an eye-opening look at how difficult life is for Australia's homeless.
The conversation about issues facing the homeless continues beyond Filthy Rich and Homeless, with SBS On Demand offering access to a number of shows that explores the issue from a number of different perspectives:
Dateline - Tiny Home Rebel
One of Dateline’s most popular stories of 2017 explores a crisis next door to Hollywood’s rich and famous – 47,000 homeless men, women and children. One man is fighting to help with his unique solution but authorities want to shut him down.
Insight - Women On The Edge
Australian Institute of Health and Welfare data shows the number of women over 55 accessing support for homelessness is increasing at a faster rate than it is for men. This week on Insight, we reveal the true extent of a largely hidden issue: older women and homelessness.
Gaycation - Jamaica
In this episode, hosts Ellen and Ian visit Jamaica, which has long been strident in pushing anti-gay politics and oppression. Due to country's cultural beliefs, homelessness has developed into a considerable problem for its LGBTIQ population.
Balls Deep - Michelle Obama
First Lady Michelle Obama recruits Thomas to join the interagency effort to end veteran homelessness, and bring one newly-homed vet to the White House.
Insight - Home Sweet Home

Nations Without Borders - Homeless
The series explores stories of Indigenous struggle from the World indigenous Broadcasters Network. This episode examines the very real struggle of homelessness.
Time Out Of Mind
George (Richard Gere) is an increasingly desperate man. With nowhere to turn, he finds himself adrift on the unforgiving streets of New York City. After exhausting all possible housing options, he seeks refuge at Bellevue Hospital, Manhattan's largest intake center for homeless men. It proves a harsh and bewildering environment, teeming with marginalised souls. But when George befriends a seasoned shelter-dweller, he begins to find hope of repairing his relationship with his estranged daughter.
Filthy Rich and Homeless - 2017 Season
For five wealthy volunteers homelessness will become a terrifying reality. After handing in their phones and wallets, they change into secondhand clothing and are given a sleeping bag. Rain's forecast and temperatures are dropping fast - the participants are dropped in different locations with no money in their pockets and nowhere to sleep. Participants Tim Guest, Kayla Fenech, Jellaine Dee, Stu Laundy, and Christian Wilkins are guided by host Indira Naidoo and homelessness expert Dr Catherine Robinson.
