Giovanna, Giovanna Mezzogiorno, lives with her husband and their kids in a Rome apartment. The marriage is in bad shape, because Giovanna despises Filippo, Filippo Nigro, for being unable to find work outside the night shift. She herself works as accountant in a chicken processing factory, and she has recently become obsessed with the handsome man who lives in the apartment across the way. One night, while out walking, Giovanna and Filippo encounter Davide, Massimo Girotti, an elderly man who has lost his memory. Over Giovanna\'s objections he moves in with them and, next day, she finally meets the handsome neighbour, Lorenzo Raoul Bova in person, when he helps her with the old man.Turkish-born, Italian based director Ferzan Ozpetek makes films about women whose apparently stable lives are given a jolt. His last film, Ignorant Fairies, was about a woman who didn\'t know her husband was bi-sexual and had led a double life with a gay lover. In this film, Giovanna - who is pretty intolerant towards her husband - contemplates an affair with the handsome guy from across the way. But this element of the film isn\'t as rewarding as the story of Davide, a survivor of the World War II resistance, and a man with a fascinating past. Massimo Girotti, one of Italy\'s great actors, died after this film was completed, and gives a fine performance as the old man. The movie is worth seeing for his presence alone.
Fascinating post WWII tale
