Film Fact: Belarus

To celebrate the weird and wonderful Eurovision Song Contest, we present weird and wonderful film facts about this year's finalist countries.

The movies are now truly a worldwide business, with simultaneous day-and-date releases of blockbusters, international casting and ticket sales in the hundreds of millions of dollars, but despite all that national quirks still endure and, in some strange cases, prosper. Take Belarus, where the humble film poster is ignored as a means of promoting a new release in favour of hiring a local artist to paint their own version of an ad for the picture. The results are frankly very odd (see above): Transformers robots look like they were designed by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Drew Barrymore has unevenly sized eyes, and Harry Potter looks like he's being played by George Clooney. You can see a selection above, but one thing you'll also notice is that shorn of recognisable stars, some of these movies actually look like they might be fun.
