Soon, love gets in the way of all her fun when she falls for the statuesque visitor from Sierra Leone, Gordon (Calvin Lockhart). An ode to mod abandon, Joanna was directed trendsetter Michael Sarne, a pop singer/fashion photographer who could swing with the best of them. When Joanna scored a Palme d'Or nomination at Cannes, he had his pick of follow-up projects…and chose to direct the ill-fated, X-rated, transgender comedy Myra Breckinridge.
