A fee dispute has caused David Fincher to be dropped from directing Sony Pictures' upcoming biopic on Steve Jobs, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The studio apparently cut ties with the Fight Club director over what it considered to be his untenable financial demands, which included a US$10 million up-front payment and eventual control over the movie’s marketing.
The THR article quotes a source as saying Fincher's demands were "ridiculous".
"You're not doing Transformers here. You’re not doing Captain America," the unidentified source is quoted as saying. "This is quality — it’s not screaming commerciality. He should be rewarded in success but not up front.”
The Jobs film is based on the best-seller book from Walter Isaacson and was to be Fincher’s second collaboration with screenwriter Aaron Sorkin following their 2010 Oscar winning hit, The Social Network.
