Fire Down Below is set somewhere in the Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky where toxic waste is being illegally stored and dumped - sleazy casino boss Kris Kristoffersson finds industrial pollution a lucrative sideline. But the Environmental Protection Agency is on the case - one agent has already been killed - he`s replaced by Jack Taggert, Steven Seagal, who arrives in this rural back-water, wearing the same horrible jackets he wore in The Glimmer Man, to sort things out. Needless to say the bad-guys aren`t going to take things lying down...Steven Seagal`s heart is, environmentally speaking, in the right place. Pity his films seems to be getting steadily worse. Fire Down Below is at times so perfunctory it`s almost amateurish: Taggart`s approach to tackling the problem makes little sense. The numerous fight scenes are standard for this sort of thing; the stunt sequences are surprisingly clumsy... As for Seagal, he doesn`t so much give a performance as a parody of a performance.
