Guild goes for early gold

The Australian Directors guild has announced its nominees for the 2010 awards.

The 2010 awards season has begun in earnest, with Rachel Perkins (Bran Nue Dae), Jeremy Sims (Beneath Hill 60), Claire McCarthy (The Waiting City), David Michôd (Animal Kingdom, pictured) and Robert Connelly (Balibo) nominated in the Australian Directors Guild best feature director category.

Michôd is also nominated in the standalone documentary category for his co-direction of Solo, a 55-minute film on Andrew McAuley's attempt to become the first person to kayak from Australia to New Zealand.

The Australian Directors Guild (ADG) represents directors in film, documentary, television, animation and digital media, as well as independent producers, with membership reaching 600 nationally. The peer-judged awards covers 18 categories, 5 of which were added for this year's event, with prizes now given for original online programs and cross platform interactive projects. Awards for children's television, children's TV reality/light entertainment and documentary features were also created.
