Fatih Akin's intense drama Head-On is the story of two second-generation Turkish Germans.
Birol Unel is Cahit, an anguished man soaking in alcohol and drugs. Sibell, played by Sibel Kekilli in her first acting role, is searching for an escape from her conservative Turkish family.
When her suicide attempt fails to secure her freedom, she convinces Cahit to enter a fake marriage. Their platonic arrangement suffers a train wreck when they fall in love. The film's success is its casting and uncompromising storyline.
Combined with a powerful, punk soundtrack, Head-On is so full on, it's intoxicating.
