Hell thinks it has answers to Ripper mystery

At times extremely bloody, the film is a bit self important and bombastic, and never really convinces, even when it comes up with its big theory as to who the Ripper really was.

Who was Jack the Ripper, the serial killer who stalked the streets of London in 1888, brutally murdering and dismembering prostitutes? From Hell thinks it has the answer. Johnny Depp plays Inspector Fred Abberline who leads the investigation into the grisly murders with the sardonic assistance of his sergeant, Robbie Coltrane. The bloody trail leads into some strange directions. The latest Jack The Ripper movie is based on a video game, and it?s been given the full digitally enhanced treatment by the twin directors Albert and Allen Hughes. At times extremely bloody, the film is a bit self important and bombastic, and never really convinces, even when it comes up with its big theory as to who the Ripper really was. Heather Graham is miscast as a London streetwalker who catches the eye of Inspector Fred theirs is one of the cinema?s more unlikely romantic liaisons - while Ian Holm and Ian Richardson bring their customary style to members of the Establishment. But all that nonsense about the Ripper giving birth to the 20th Century is just that ? nonsense.
