Organisers of the Sydney Film Festival have snuck in a late addition to the lineup on the eve of the opening night, announcing that Leox Carax's Holy Motors will screen direct from its world premiere at Cannes.

The film was a critical favourite at the recently completed Cannes Film Festival, for its bizarre blend of fantasy and black comedy. The narrative, such as it is, has lead actor Demi Lavant play Monseiur Oscar, a limousine-bound chameleon who adopts a series of personas in the back of his dressing room-on-wheels, and in the course of a day, interacts with a variety of people in Paris in very profound ways.
Carax has long been absent from our screens, given the fallout from his costly 1991 film, The Lovers on the Bridge, which was beset by production delays stemming from permissions to shoot on Paris' famed Pont Neuf bridge, to injuries incurred by Lavant (Carax's frequent collaborator), and escalating costs that caused a series of bond agent interventions and shut-downs of production.
