Home Alone 3 Review

I`m not a mad enthusiast for the Home Alone films, I couldn`t stand Macaulay Culkin`s complacent cruelty, and I found the films really mean-spirited - by the end of them I was rooting for the bad guys! Well Macaulay`s graduated from being a kid and young Alex D. Linz has been brought in to replace him..... he`s cute, but he`s also smug and we all know how much help he gets from the special effects guys. The story`s pretty slim.... a computer chip which has been stolen from the US Air Force for the North Koreans falls accidentally into the hands of Alex`s neighbour, cranky old Mrs. Hess. She`s unaware of what she`s got because it`s hidden in a toy car which she gives to Alex for sweeping her driveway...... and that`s where the fun - if you can call it that - begins for Alex who`s home alone with chicken pox....Perhaps the full impact of the cruelty has been slightly lessened in this third film in the series, but in comparing Home Alone 3 with The Borrowers I was much more relaxed about the British take on the theme of aggressive defence. Home Alone is by now formulaic, a bit tired - maybe, just maybe, Hollywood could come up with something fresh for kids some time in the near future.
