One of the emerging trends at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest is the extraordinary number of teenagers representing their nations. County Tipperary’s Molly Sterling is the first of five teenagers to feature in Semi Final 2 where she’ll perform her stripped back piano driven ballad 'Playing with Numbers'. Reminiscent of Missy Higgins and Gabrielle Aplin, Molly’s entry will be stark and devoid of glitz... not sure how the viewing public will receive that? With the Irish having less than impressed over the last few years it’s difficult to see a reversal of fortunes with this offering. Nice but you may only get to see this entry once.

4 Questions with Molly Sterling
What are three interesting aspects about your entry?
- I think the personality of the song is quite different compared to a lot of usual Eurovision entries.
- There isn’t too much glitz and glamour going on. Perhaps because Greg and I originally wrote 'Playing With Numbers' for my album, the song that is that bit more personal and real.
- Hopefully people will connect with it.
What are three impressive facts about you?
- There aren’t too many to choose from! Maybe my honey obsession?! I don’t know anyone who consumes more honey than me! Five jars in a single week is my record. Maybe that’s not impressive though, maybe that’s just quite strange. Yeah, definitely just strange.
- I double graded in my kickboxing grade last year. Although, I haven’t boxed for about 6 months but it still counts, right? Maybe not.
- I have a donkey at home in Tipp who’s 50 years old. Mick the donkey. That’s pretty impressive, I guess.
Do you have a (lucky) routine before you go on stage?
I do, but I’m afraid to tell anyone in case I jinx the magic! Maybe one day I’ll spill the secret but it’s still early days and luck needs to be on our side in Vienna!
Why is the Eurovision Song Contest important for you?
Well, it goes without saying how amazing it would be to represent your country and perform at an international level. I’m learning so much throughout this whole process and the Eurovision experience, so far, has been invaluable. As well as that, I hope this will open doors for me as an artist and maybe people who watch the Eurovision Song Contest will want to listen to my other music too.
