As committed as Lucasfilm is to hiring a female director, they say it's a challenge to find a qualified one.

Production company Lucasfilm has been very vocal about wanting to hire a female director for their next Star Wars movie.

However, finding the right director for the job has proved challenging.

President of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy, told Variety that bringing in a female director into the fold isn’t as easy as simply hiring a woman.

They need to be qualified.

“We want to make sure that when we bring a female director in to do Star Wars they’re set up for success,” Kennedy says.

“They’re gigantic films, and you can’t come into them with essentially no experience.”

However, some argue there are already plenty of female directors out there qualified for the role in the industry.

In fact, Indiewire lists a series of female directors they think would be more than up for the job. They include Wonder Woman’s Patty Jenkins, and television series maker Lynn Shelton of Fresh off the Boat, amongst other big names.
