Shane Jacobson will star as an eccentric chicken farmer in a new Australian comedy, Oddball, which has commenced production in Victoria this week.

Based on a true story, Oddball follows the exploits of Swampy Marsh, the said farmer who enlists the help of his granddaughter to train his dog to protect a wild penguin sanctuary.

Oddball is set in Warrnambool, and will be shot over seven weeks at locations in and around Melbourne and Warrnambool.

Rising star Sarah Snook will headline with Jacobson (pictured, in 2009's Charlie & Boots), in a cast that also includes American actor Alan Tudyk and Deborah Mailman.

The film will be directed by Stuart McDonald, known in TV circles for his work directing the ABC comedy series Summer Heights High.
