Amos Gitai (Free Zone, 2005), Kippur, 2000), Kadosh, 1999) is considered one of Israel's finest directors. In Disengagement (2007) he explores both the personal and powerfully political connotations of the film's title.
Juliette Binoche stars as Ana, whose father has just died in France. She is exuberant when her stepbrother, Uli (played by Gitai regular, Liron Levo) arrives from Israel and is determined to give him her share of the will. Ana doesn't know that her father 'the monster' has added an immovable condition to inheritance — that she must find her daughter, Dana (Dana Ivgy) in the Gaza Strip. Ana has not seen Dana since birth, when she gave her up for adoption. She travels with Uli to Israel to find her.
