Kurosawa remake \'High\' on the cards

Variety reports that Mike Nichols is set to direct a remake of Kurosawa\'s classic 1963 thriller High and Low,and he\'s got a high-calibre team of collaborators on board; theadaptation is being penned by David Mamet and the film is backed byMartin Scorcese as executive producer.

With a team like that at the helm you know it will be better than your average remake but the big question is: which actor should they cast in the role made famous by Toshiro Mifune?

The original is a classic film noir race-against-time thriller, in which a wealthy businessman becomes the subject of a kidnapping and extortion bid in seedy post-war Tokyo. A case of mistaken identity twists the plot into new territory as the businessman grapples with the moral dilemma of sacrificing everything he owns to save the life of a child that is not his.

Kurosawa\'s film was itself adapted from the American novel by Ed McBain.
