Land of the Dead is the best Romero zombie film yet

Land of the Dead tops all of the zombie films.

This is the fourth in a series of films Romero started in the 60's when his sense of satire was acute. But as far as I'm concerned Land of the Dead tops them all. Uncompromising and visceral, the film equates the modern day threat of terror with that of the walking dead. Simon Baker is mesmerising as Riley the mercenary and American icon Denis Hopper delivers his most restrained and hilarious performance to date. Dario Argento's daughter Asia adds a nice balance to Baker's Riley. Land of the Dead mirrors the times we live in with intensity and humor. This is literally gut wrenching cinema.

What's it about?

A new society has been built by a handful of ruthless opportunists, who live in the towers of a skyscraper, high above the existence on the streets below. But outside the city walls, an army of the dead is evolving. Inside, anarchy is on the rise. With the very survival of the city at stake, a group of hardened mercenaries is called into action to protect the living from an army of the dead. The fourth in George A. Romero's legendary zombie series, following 1968's Night of the Living Dead, 1978's Dawn of the Dead and 1985's Day of the Dead.
