There are murmurs in the movie world saying that Lupita Nyong’o may be cast as the love interest to Chadwick Boseman in Marvel’s The Black Panther movie.
After sources confirmed to Variety that the Oscar winning actress was in talks to play the part, fans have started freaking out.
The writer and director of Creed, Ryan Coogler is directing Black Panther and writing the script for it. Boseman will be starring as the main character T’Challa who is the warrior king of Wakandu. Wakanda is an African nation in the Marvel universe.
There has been no word on who Nyong’o’s character will be but the online world has erupted into an excited frenzy about the announcement that she may be in the movie.
It would be great to see Hollywood cast a black actress in the role, and even more interesting to see if they paint her face or alter her features. We want Hollywood to show our best black actors and this is a prime opportunity to put Nyong'o in the Marvel universe with the face of Nyong'o. No painting needed.
The film is set to be released on February 2, 2018 and production to start early next year according to Hollywood Reporter. Nyong'o stars in Disney's Queen of Katwe that will hit cinemas in September this year, so if she is cast in the Black Panther movie she won't have much rest before her next blockbuster.
The Mexican-Kenyan actress last appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. She has won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in 12 Years a Slave. She became the sixth black actress and first Mexican actress to win the award. She also became the first Kenyan actress to win an Oscar.
We hope to see her on our Marvel screens in Black Panther in a couple of years.
