Award-winning producer/director Khoa Do's Missing Water has taken top honours in the DigiSPAA digital filmmaking contest.

The award was handed out at a conference of Australian screen producers in Sydney last week.

Missing Water was shot entirely with the Red One HD camera, and premiered to wide acclaim at the Sydney Film Festival. It recreates the experience of four Vietnamese asylum seekers, whose traumatic boat journey is played out entirely within the confines of a suburban sweatshop.

Titan View will release Missing Water nationally in cinemas in 2010, to coincide with the 35th anniversary of the arrival of the first Vietnamese refugees in Australia.

A former Young Australian of the Year, Do is an agile filmmaker with a preference for working outside of the system, often with non-professional actors. He wasn't able to collect his award in person as he's already in production on another feature, which will focus on the African migrant experience.
